Lal Bahadur Shastri was one of the most respected and noble leaders of India. Renowned for his honesty, humble simplicity, fearless courage, and supreme dedication to the motherland, he served as the second Prime Minister of independent India.

Lal Bahadur Shastri was born on 2 October 1904 in Mughalsarai, Uttar Pradesh. His father was Sharda Prasad Srivastava and his mother was Ramdulari Devi. Growing up in a modest family, he imbibed the golden virtues of resilience, hard work, and moral integrity from his earliest childhood.

Deeply inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, Shastri Ji plunged into India's freedom movement at a young age. He actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement (1921), Civil Disobedience Movement, and the historic Quit India Movement (1942). He suffered rigorous imprisonment multiple times without wavering.

Shastri Ji took office as Prime Minister on 9 June 1964. During the intense 1965 India-Pakistan War, he provided decisive and fearless leadership. He coined the immortal slogan "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan", elevating the supreme dignity of soldiers guarding our frontiers and farmers feeding our nation.

Shastri Ji exemplified ethical accountability in public office. As Railway Minister in 1956, he voluntarily resigned taking moral responsibility for a train accident. His lifestyle remained austere, uncorrupted, and firmly rooted in serving citizens selflessly.

After signing the historic Tashkent Peace Agreement, Shastri Ji passed away suddenly on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent. In 1966, he was posthumously conferred the Bharat Ratna. His memorial in New Delhi is reverently named Vijay Ghat.

Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji remains an eternal beacon of humility, patriotism, and unbending integrity. His clarion call, "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan", continues to inspire generations of young Indians to serve and protect the nation with pride and dedication.
